News: Burger King - New Breakfast Bowl and English Muffin

Burger King BK Breakfast Muffin Sandwich

Burger King today announced two additions to their breakfast menu: the BK Breakfast Bowl and BK Breakfast Muffin.

The BK Breakfast Bowl features roasted southwestern potatoes, grilled onions and peppers, scrambled eggs and sausage topped with a blend of three cheeses and a smoky cheese sauce and has a suggested price of $2.79.

The BK Breakfast Muffin is a BK Breakfast Value Menu item priced at $1 and features a sausage patty, egg, and a slice of melted American cheese sandwiched between two halves of a freshly-baked English muffin.

The two menu items are similar to two existing menu items from major Burger King competitors Jack in the Box and McDonald's. The BK Breakfast Muffin muffin is very much like McDonald's Sausage McMuffin with Egg albeit cheaper at $1 and therefore potentially a better value. The BK Breakfast Bowl on the other hand, is like Jack in the Box's Hearty Breakfast Bowl which features scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, and sausage crumbles, topped with shredded Cheddar cheese and a white Cheddar cheese sauce and sells for about $2.99.

It looks like Burger King is going the value route in undercutting competitor prices for similar items. I'm a bit dubious about the "freshly-baked English muffin" claim since I've never known a Burger King to bake anything, but they do have those new broiler ovens that they've been touting.

  1. Yummm, boiler sausage. The first thing I need in the morning!

Interesting, I just saw the commercial for this today. Too bad I never wake up early enough to get one!
