Frozen Friday: Hungry-Man - Grilled Bourbon Steak Strips

Part of Hungry-Man's "Pub Favorites," the Grilled Bourbon Steak Strips frozen meal features grilled beef strips and onions in a bourbon sauce with garlic mashed potatoes, and a seasoned broccoli and carrot medley. The price for this pound of food is $3.69.

The word here has to be "over-reaching." Hungry-Man tried to do a little too much here and got a little too fancy with poor results. First off, steak is never going to turn out well in a microwave. Steak is meant to be cooked with fire, not from the inside out. It's not a surprise that the steak turned out rubbery and chewy. To top it off, the bourbon sauce was off-putting; vinegary with a little sweetness and an odd aftertaste.

If the package did not say "garlic," I would have never guessed the potatoes were flavored with garlic. They were also over-whipped and almost liquid.
Even the carrots and broccoli were bad. Typical of frozen vegetables, they were overcooked, but, in addition, were also salty and seasoned way too much.

Overall, everything was salted with nothing to counterbalance. Definitely, the least enjoyable Hungry-Man I've ever eaten. I would have actually enjoyed it more if everything was bland and unseasoned. The only thing Hungry-Man's Grilled Bourbon Steak Strips dinner has going for it is that, at least calorie- and fat-wise, it's one of the more healthier Hungry-Man dinners. It's actually only 410 calories for a pound of food.
