Review: Arby's Chocolate Turnover

Arby's Chocolate Turnover
Arby's Chocolate Turnover features a puff pasty turnover filled with a rich chocolate filling and decorated with a zig zag pattern of chocolate icing. It's a limited-time value menu item for $1.

When I first saw the turnover, I was pleasantly surprised to discovered that it full-sized since most bakeries charge over a buck for a turnover.

I bit into it and was again surprised to find that it was super flaky! Most turnovers I've had are more soft throughout, like a supermarket croissant, but without the butter. Arby's Chocolate Turnover was actually crisp for several layers from the surface, only to give way to the softer inner layers: A definite plus in my book.

Mmm... Flaky!
The Hershey-cocoa-flavored filling had a Nutella-like consistency of fairly sweet, semi-dark chocolate.A tad on the sweet side, but very enjoyable. The Sister did not like the filling though, saying it was too much like Nutella. It's a good thing the puff pastry wasn't sweetened; it served a nice counter-balance to the filling.

Overall, I was quite impressed with Arby's Chocolate Turnover. So much so, that I am now curious to try their other turnover flavors.

  2. I just had one last week for a buck. The only reason I tried it was because I was trying to fill out a 5-for-$5 coupon I had. But I agree, I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was, especially for a buck.

  3. I was impressed...and it tasted pretty good too. A bit like nutella, but nothing wrong with that.

  4. I don't believe this is $1 anywhere. Clever advertising: "PART of the Value Menu Starting At $1"

    It's actually $1.39. You were cheated :)

  5. Prices can vary from franchise to franchise, but my local Arby's actually had them for a buck! Score for me!
