Review: Burger King - Tendergrill Chicken Sandwich

BK Tendergrill Chicken Sandwich top view
Burger King's Tendergrill Chicken Sandwich is BK's version of the ubiquitous fast food grilled chicken sandwich. Unsurprisingly, it features a seasoned grilled chicken filet, with lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo. To change it up a little, Burger King recently changed the bun to a healthier, whole grain ciabatta. Pricing stands at $4.19.

The new whole grain ciabatta bun feels thicker and more substantial than the previous bun; it's soft and dense. It's the same bun as the BK breakfast Ciabatta Club. I would have liked a bit of toasty crispness, but unless they toast to order, that will never happen.

There was some ice charring on the chicken breast from the flame broiler so cheers for that. The chicken was nicely seasoned and not too salty, but any saltiness might have been offset by the thicker Ciabatta bun. The veggies were fresh this time around, but it's often hit-or-miss at Burger King. Also, for a premium-priced sandwiches and one that, with the new bun, is probably aimed at more health-conscious eaters, green leaf or Romaine lettuce would probably be a better sell.

You can see the nice charred edge of the bottom half of the chicken. Tastes like fire!
I like it better than the Tendercrisp Chicken Sandwich. While I like the texture and crunch of the Tendercrisp, the Tendergrill had more depth of flavor. It isn't hard to make a similar sandwich in your own home though.

For those looking for a healthier option, cutting out the mayo will cut the Tendergrill down to 360 calories and 7g of fat (it's still slightly north of 1000mg of sodium though).

  1. I like the Tendercrisp better but this isn't bad.  I always wonder if they're actually supposed to make areas of the chicken so black that it looks like they're overcooking it?  I hope they're not overcooking it because I don't like to pay for charcoal.

But the sandwich is good.  The chicken is moist and has some flavor.  But I wish they used the same bun as they do for the Tendercrisp.  Otherwise it's a fairly good sandwich just not quite on the same level as the Tendercrisp.

  2. This is most delicious...and a wonderful use of fowl other than chicken. Whether your locale uses pidgeon, sea gull or blackbird...the results are a well seasoned although slightly gamey rendition of a pseudo chicken sandwich.

I work at BK we toast the ciabatta buns twice before making the sandwhich and its always to order. You may want to do more research for your reveiws (possibly asking questions to the bk crew) instead of basing your statments off of biased inacuracies.

  4. Ciabatta bun Sucks- It's so dry without mayo I couldn't tell if I was eating the bun or the napkin

SOme things are better left alone

  5. Actually you work at a BK, they're not all consistent and I based my review off of my impressions from eating the sandwich i.e. what I actually got.

  7. This was the most disgusting sandwich ever, I had to buy it our of disparity because there was no chipotle around....It may have just been that burger king, but the cibatta roll was dry and not toasted at all, the lettuce was old..I feel like I am going to throw up just talking about this, i would have rather gotten the higher calorie chicken nuggets, and lets face it people if we are eating fast food chances are we are not "calorie conscious" anyway, so if your opting for a "healthier" choice, eat at home...

  8. 360 has to be one of the most sensible fast food options out there but idk is it big enough? The new bun seems smaller

  9. I think it's roughly the same size as before. The ciabatta just throws off the dimensions a bit since it's rectangular.
