Review: Taco Bell - Quad Steak Burrito

Taco Bell's new, limited-time Quad Steak Burritos marks the debut of their new, thicker, better steak. To showcase the new steak, Taco Bell complements it with seasoned rice, salsa, reduced-fat sour cream and Cheddar cheese. A premium menu item, the Quad Steak Burrito clocks in at $4.99 and is served in a foil wrapper rather than the typical wax paper of other Taco Bell items. The addition of a fountain drink to make it a combo brings the price to $5.99.

There's also a Double Steak Burrito for a dollar less at $3.99.

There's more steak than you expect in a Taco Bell item but you're not going to think: "Oh wow, this is a lot of steak!"
The signage at my local Taco Bell advertised that the steak is USDA Select, which is a grade up from USDA Standard. Upon biting into the Quad Steak Burrito, I felt that the steak was better, more substantial, and tender but with more texture than the previous version; it actually feels like steak which the old steak did not.
The seasoning is too similar to Taco Bell's ground beef for my liking; I would have liked to see something different like lime or extra spice so that choosing between ground beef and steak feels like a more meaningful choice rather than mostly a change of texture and nutrition.

The cheese is lost in the mix so the flavor is mostly just steak, rice, and tortilla (the salsa just kinda blurs into the rice). Some fresh diced onions and tomatoes would have done wonders.
All in all, the Quad Steak Burrito, while decent, is just too familiar and pricey to be much to my liking but it does mark the introduction of better steak throughout Taco Bell's menu. Also, since it approaches Chipotle prices, it has to be noted that Chipotle offers a bigger, more varied burrito and more options for customization.

  4. The burrito is decent if you like Taco Bell and will fill you a up a bit if you're hungry, but it's honestly over-priced.

  5. I enjoyed it, and it even had a lot more steak than the one pictured. The price is to be expected, though. At least it doesn't give me the runs like Chipotle. xD
