Review: 7-Eleven - 7-Select Onion Rings

In more recent years, 7-Eleven has been expanding the number of items it produces under its own label, 7-Select, including such things as bread, juice, and snacks. 7-Eleven's Onion Rings appear similar to a favorite of mine, Frito Lay's Funyuns. They're onion-flavor fried rings made of corn meal sold at 79 cents for a 1.625-ounce bag.

Texture-wise, 7-Select Onion Rings are almost identical to Funyuns; they both have that air-bubble, crunchy, fried feel. I think Funyun's are a bit thicker though.
The taste of the two rings are very different. On the initial bite, you start to get that onion, garlic flavor but then it all goes awry. There's a weird tomato-y after taste that I really did not like. It also a bit sweeter; they list brown sugar as one of the ingredients. There's a sourness that I particularly found distasteful (from tomato powder I think).

My advice? Stick with Funyuns. These are pretty awful.
