News: Sonic - New Bacon & Blue Dog and Kickin' Coney

Sonic has two new premium beef hot dogs: the Bacon & Blue Dog and the Kickin' Coney.

The Bacon & Blue Dog features a all-beef hot dog covered in crisp bacon, shredded lettuce, tomatoes and blue cheese dressing on a poppy seed bun.

The Kickin' Coney takes the Sonic Chili Cheese Coney and adds some crunch and heat with crispy onions and chipotle BBQ sauce.

Both hot dogs are available for a very reasonable $1.99 each.

  1. I've already tried both, being a Sonic connoisseur and former employee (it was my first job).

Bacon & Blue Dog - good idea, horrible implementation. It really doesn't have a taste to it, likely due to the lettuce and tomato. I couldn't taste the hot dog, bacon or blue cheese, which is the whole point of the coney I thought. If I were to re-do this one, I'd lay out two strips of bacon on the bottom of the bun, then the hot dog, then top with the blue cheese and a little ketchup. And it's imperative to get a stronger blue cheese or just add more crumbles to the coney. And if they must add the lettuce and tomato, do it sparingly.

Kickin' Coney - I actually like this better than the regular coney, probably because it's the same thing but it adds bbq sauce and the crispy onions. I wish you could order this in the extra-long (or I wonder if you should just ask for it special since it's really no different than a regular extra-long coney). The chipotle bbq sauce doesn't add much heat to it, but it is very tasty. The crispy onions just make it more Western but aren't much different than just adding diced onions except the onion taste is a little more subdued.
