Frozen Friday: Hot Pocket Snackers - Potato Skin Bites

Hot Pocket Snackers Potato Skin Bites are mini-hot pockets that can be eaten in a bite or two and feature bacon, cheddar, potatoes, and green onions inside a potato crust.

Retail is about $3.69 for a 10-ounce bag of 12 pieces. On sale, you're looking at around $2.

I wasn't sure what to expect with these. The package reads "golden potato crust" so I wondered if it was like a mashed potato crust (it's not) but it's mostly a flour crust there might be potato it in but I didn't taste any. It did have a bit of texture at the surface and was sturdy enough to not leak any filling (a pretty good feat in microwave cooking).

What I did taste was the filling of cheesy bacon-y goodness. While you don't get any crunchy bacon texture as you might on an actual potato skin, you do get a fair amount of bacon flavor. There were small bits of potato thrown in there as well but the flavor was a bit understated due to the bacon and cheese.

The real kicker were the green onions; they gave the filling a nice pop that sets it apart from the standard bacon and cheese and tells your brain, "potato skin" instead of "breakfast."

Overall, if you like the typical potato skin toppings and not the actual potato part as much, Hot Pocket's Potato Skin Bites Snackers should be right up your alley. They make for neater eating too.

  1. I had these the other day, while i wouldn't consider them "potato skins" they are pretty tasty as a "cheesy, bacon, green onion.. thing" definitely worth a try
