Review: El Pollo Loco - Chicken Avocado Burrito

El Pollo Loco's Chicken Avocado Burrito is a limited-time item they're sporting for the summer because avocados abound around this time of year. Each burrito is filled with pieces of flame-grilled chicken, fresh-sliced avocado, cabbage, pinto beans, and creamy cilantro dressing plus diced cilantro thrown in for good measure.

It cost me $5.29 for the burrito.

The burrito came in at a pretty good size that's likely to fill the belly. There's a good amount of buttery sliced avocado to be found which is always nice.

I generally like El Pollo Loco's citrus marinated flame-grilled chicken and it worked well in the burrito remaining juicy and flavorful.

The beans were used sparingly and tasted somewhat bland. There's some salsa and cilantro thrown in, but I didn't notice them too much.

I was a bit dubious about the cabbage as it sometimes has an unpleasant taste raw, but it tasted fine in the Chicken Avocado Burrito and provided a very satisfying crunch.

The cilantro dressing was like a ranch, but lighter in flavor and with a cucumber-like refreshing quality (from the cilantro I'm guessing).

My burrito in particular wasn't particularly wrapped well; there was a section (see below) where I found myself with a big mouthful of flour tortilla and not much else (They were also pretty slow with my order, so I don't know what the deal was; it wasn't busy or anything like that). Still, I mostly liked the Chicken Avocado Burrito; it delivered on the avocado front and the ingredients worked well together providing a good blend of taste and textures.

The Sister did not care for El Pollo Loco's Chicken Avocado Burrito so much. She considered it to be on the bland side. I can see where that comes from, but feel it's more a mix of subtler flavors so that you get the full effect of the avocado. It you prefer stronger flavors, you might feel the same as she. I also tried it with some spicy, creamy avocado salsa from El Pollo Loco's salsa bar which is tasty, especially if you're looking for that extra hit of flavor with some heat to boot.
