Review: Entenmann's - Pumpkin Donuts

Entenmann's Pumpkin Donuts are new and made with real pumpkin. I'd never seen pumpkin donuts at any of my local supermarkets, so I picked a box of these up.

It's not cheap at $4.99 for a box of 8 donuts, but a sale knocked the price down to $2.50.

I was pretty excited to see these as a lover of pumpkin-anything. Store-bought donuts aren't my favorite (if I'm going to be consuming the calories, I'd rather have a fresh one), but it's made of pumpkin!

The donuts were very orange to let you know that they are indeed pumpkin donuts.

Biting into one, the mostly cinnamon, nutmeg and pumpkin flavor started to develop, but was quickly knocked out by the thick glaze and it just tasted like a plain donut after that. In sum, I got a lot of sugar and not so much pumpkin or spice flavor.

I think the glaze helps the donut last longer on the shelf, but I'm not sure. As with any store-bought donut I've tried, the crust has long softened to match the crumb. The overall effect is a uniform dense, soft texture typical of an old-fashioned donut (they're not actually made with any buttermilk though).

Overall, I was pretty disappointed. I was expecting pumpkin and the donuts just tasted like Entermann's Glazed Buttermilk Donuts with a slight tinge of spice that was covered up by an excessively sweet glaze. On the other hand, it's still a standard store-bought donut.
