News: Starbucks Tests Caramel Flan Latte

Starbucks is testing a new Caramel Flan Latte in select locations across the U.S.

The test drink features the standard espresso and steamed milk of their lattes along with the addition of flan syrup, topped with caramel-flavored whipped cream and finished with a drizzle of caramel flan-flavored syrup. The drink is also available iced and as a Frappuccino.

Confirmed locations offering the drink include select Starbuck stores in San Diego, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

Twitter buzz seems to be mostly positive: One poster declared that it tastes "just like leche flan." Another stated, "I am now obsessed with the Caramel Flan latte." The lone negative tweet in the last few days said, "...the flavor is almost non existent."

Just as an off-the-cuff reaction, the new Caramel Flan Latte seems a lot like the seasonally-offered Creme Brulee Latte. Since both desserts are basically custards with caramelized sugar, it follows that flavored syrup version of them would also be alike.

  1. I had an iced caramel flan latte at the San Diego airport location and it was delicious! I think it's better than the creme brulee latte!
