News: Starbucks - New Hazelnut Macchiato

Starbucks adds a new Hazelnut Macchiato to their permanent menu nationwide. Apparently, hazelnut is the second favorite syrup added to their drink after vanilla.

While the Hazelnut could be ordered previously by ordering a Macchiato with hazelnut syrup instead of caramel, it is now listed on the menu.

The drink is made of steamed milk, vanilla syrup, and espresso, finished with a drizzle of hazelnut sauce. An iced version is also available

It bears mentioning that a Starbucks Macchiato is pretty much the reverse of what a "macchiato" is in Italy, and pretty much any other place other than a Starbucks. "Macchiato" means "marked" in Italian, and a caffe macchiato is an espresso-based coffee drink wherein the espresso is marked with a bit of milk. At Starbucks, it's the complete opposite where the a Macchiato is described as "steamed velvety-smooth milk “marked” with our signature, perfectly balanced espresso."
