Review: Kettle Brand Bakes Sea Salt Potato Chips

Kettle Brand Bakes Sea Salt Potato Chips are the baked version of the brand's kettle-cooked potato chips. They're made simply with oil, potatoes, and sea salt.

A 4-ounce bag costs a little more than $3.

Having had baked chips before I expected these to be more like Baked Lay's, which is to say a dried-out but healthier potato chip alternative. Kettle Brand Bakes surprised me though; they actually had a little grease to them and look, and feel, like an uncannily flat, thick potato chip.

The biggest surprise was to come though: when I actually bit into the chips there was a loud "crunch!" Usually with baked chips, you might get a light crispiness, but never a bona fide crunching sound... but here it was!

These baked chips don't lack for flavor either: there's prominent potato taste to be found here.

As a bonus, here's the kicker: these have 30 less calories and 6g less fat per 1-ounce serving than Kettle Brand's regular potato chips. That's pretty nice if you're looking to cut some fat out of your diet, but love potato chips.

Overall, Kettle Brand Bakes Sea Salt Potato Chips are quite a bit more expensive than regular potato chips, but they have a great crunch, just enough grease, and all the potato flavor you expect. Consider them the top of the baked chip food chain.
