Review: Jack in the Box - Egg White and Turkey Breakfast Sandwich

Jack in the Box's Egg White and Turkey Breakfast Sandwich features a grilled slice of turkey, tomato, American cheese, and egg whites on a plain burger bun.

I picked one up for $1.99.

The only new thing in the sandwich is the egg whites, which were really fluffy and came in a pretty thick puck.

The turkey is the same as you'd find in their only-available-at-some-locations deli sandwiches and while there's just the lone slice (and it did not appear to be grilled), it's fairly salty. Most of the sandwich's flavor comes from it and the melted slice of American cheese.

The tomato was decently firm and fresh, adding just a little bit of flavor to the sandwich. I think if they're going to do the tomato for breakfast, they might as well go for a grilled cheese vibe by adding a slice more of cheese and just ditching the turkey. Or, maybe get the jump on the competition by adding some spinach or other leafy greens.

The bun gives the sandwich a rather ho-hum soft white bread feel that's particularly disappointing. It's toasted (on the inside) but it doesn't feel toasted. They don't offer English muffins at Jack in the Box and going with the biscuit or croissant would have destroyed the whole better-for-you vibe, but I think they could have gone with the grilled sourdough rounds they use on the Sourdough Jack here.

Overall, Jack in the Box's Egg White and Turkey Breakfast Sandwich was just okay. It seemed a missed opportunity for a stepped-up better-for-you fast food breakfast sandwich without too much fuss (i.e. having to source new ingredients).
