Review: Rally's - Cheddar Pub Burger

Rally's Cheddar Pub Burger is one of their current specials and features a beef patty, "savory, flavory cheese sauce," crispy onion tanglers, fresh red onions, shredded lettuce, and mayo on a sesame seed bun.

I bought one for $1.

I'd never been to Rally's and some of you had requested it this month, so here we are.

Not sure why they ended up calling a $1 value burger a Cheddar Pub Burger as it makes you envision a bigger, heartier version. I'm guessing it's due to the crispy onion tanglers but I hardly think of them as essential nor indicative of a "pub burger." I think the "Cheddar Onion Burger" or something similar would have been more fitting. That being said, there wasn't too much onion flavor to the burger; there was a lone ring of fresh onion and the onion tanglers were just slightly crispy without the typical sweet onion taste.

The cheese came in a small dollop the very middle of the beef patty. It was very mild and not very cheddar-y. I would have preferred your typical slice of American over it.

Sizewise, the Cheddar Pub Burger was a pretty decent size for a value burger; I'd say it's slightly wider than a McDonald's Hamburger and a fair bit meatier. They patty had a slight sear to it and tasted considerably meaty.

The lettuce was okay quality for fast food and the mayo lacked a substantial flavor to riff off of.

The bun was a little heartier than the softer, squishy buns that tends to be the norm among competitors.

Overall, Rally's Cheddar Pub Burger has a solid base but doesn't give it enough support with the overly weak cheese and onions. It ended up feeling a little too plain for me.
