Review: Burger King - Mushroom & Swiss Big King

Burger King's Mushroom & Swiss Big King features a club-style 3-part sesame bun filled with two flame-grilled beef patties, a slice of Swiss cheese, sauteed mushrooms, and mayo.

I took advantage of their current two for $5 deal and got one of these.

I feel like the Big King has thicker buns than the Big Mac. It felt like I was just eating a lot of bread so I ended up pulling out the middle bun after a few bites and it was much improved (also it's ill-fitting and notably narrower than the top and bottom buns).

There was an even layer of mushrooms, but they were hard and rubbery. They had a nice, strong flavor to them, which isn't always the case with mushrooms on burgers.

The mayo wasn't too heavy and added a welcomed savory note to the burger (it's no Griller sauce though).

The beef patties were just a little dry and didn't quite have that charred flavor you'd expect from flame grilling.

The Swiss cheese, like a lot of fast food cheese, wasn't packing much in the flavor department, but added the requisite creaminess. It wasn't melted though.

Overall, I liked the simplicity of the Mushroom & Swiss Big King, but hated the unnecessary middle bun and poor texture of the mushrooms. Still, out of the three versions of the Big King that Burger King has put out so far, I enjoyed this one most.
