News: Taco Bell Testing New Biscuit Taco

Taco Bell is testing a new Biscuit Taco as a possible addition to their recently introduced breakfast menu. They're also testing two new versions of the AM Crunchwrap: one with country gravy and another with guacamole (more on that in a different post).

I trotted over to their headquarters just the other day to check them all out (and to eat them, of course. More on that in another post). Here's what I learned about the Biscuit Taco while at the Taco Bell mothership:

The Biscuit Taco marks Taco Bell's continued push to innovate the fast food/quick-serve breakfast category; basically, to do your classic breakfast items, but with a Taco Bell twist.

Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit Taco
The new Biscuit Tacos, which are currently finishing up a small local test here in Southern California (if you're looking to try them, the locations are listed below), feature a warm, flaky biscuit shaped like a taco shell, and can come with various breakfast fillings. They stressed that the biscuits are made with buttermilk as well as butter. To make sure the biscuit taco shells were up to snuff, Taco Bell originally tested them in the heart of the South in San Antonio, TX and Atlanta, GA.

As part of the new Biscuit Taco, you'll also find new options for crispy tortilla chip-encrusted chicken, country gravy, and jalapeno honey sauce.

Here's the complete line-up for Taco Bell's Biscuit Taco:

- Sausage, Egg and Cheese
- Bacon, Egg and Cheese
- Sausage and Cheese
- Egg and Cheese
- Sausage and Gravy
- Crispy Chicken with Country Gravy
- Crispy Chicken with Jalapeno Honey

The Crispy Chicken and the Sausage and Gravy versions were inspired by Southern cuisine.

L to R: Country Gravy and Jalapeno Honey after I used them for dipping.
Prices currently range from $1.99 (for the Egg and Cheese) to $3.29 (for either Chicken version). You might find them cheaper in test though, a common practice to encourage people to try them.

As promised, if you have a hankering to try Taco Bell's new Biscuit Tacos (and live in the LA/OC area), you'll find them at the following locations:

- 303 West Imperial Highway, Brea, CA
- 131 E. Orangethrope Ave.; 3000 Yorba Linda Blvd., Fullerton, CA
- 15006 La Mirada Blvd., La Mirada, CA
- 10551 Carmenita Rd., Santa Fe Springs, CA

You better be quick, though, as they're only around for about another week.

Please bear in mind that the Biscuit Taco is still in initial testing, which means they might never go national or they might change markedly before they go national.
