Review: Cinnabon - Pumpkin Caramel Classic Roll

Cinnabon's Pumpkin Caramel Classic Roll takes their classic cinnamon roll and tops it with pumpkin pie-flavored caramel sauce.

It was $4.99 for one.

If you've never had a Classic Cinnabon Roll, it's basically an over-sized, fairly fresh-baked (depending on your timing) cinnamon roll, with plenty of cream cheese and gooey cinnamon filling. It's more than enough to share. The Pumpkin Caramel version just tops it off with a pumpkin-spiced caramel sauce.

There's a caramelized sweetness to the sauce with a distinct and tangy pumpkin spice end note. I could do without the tang; it was a little distracting. The cream cheese helps in cutting the tang though.

A Classic Cinnabon Roll is already pretty sweet, so the extra sauce doesn't noticeably add to the sugar overload. The roll itself has a chewiness to it that is a bit different from some of the more airy sliced-bread-like cinnamon rolls you might get at the supermarket. Cinnamon flavor abounds.

Overall, Cinnabon's Pumpkin Caramel Classic Roll was good, but not great for me. It mostly tasted like the original (which it mostly was). It gives you the requisite pumpkin flavor, but I didn't like the tang.

What I'd really like to see them do is to roll up some pumpkin puree with cinnamon and then bake it and topped with whipped cream and pumpkin spices. Maybe next year?
