Review: Papa John's - Ultimate Meats Pizza

Papa John's Ultimate Meats Pizza comes topped with pepperoni, salami, sausage, hickory-smoked bacon, Canadian bacon, and bacon seasoning.

I picked up a large for $12.

The Ultimate Meats Pizza is a slight, limited-time variation on their regular-menu The Meats Pizza, with the only difference being the substitution of salami instead of beef and the addition of bacon seasoning.

For a pizza with both bacon and bacon seasoning, the Ultimate Meats Pizza was surprisingly lacking in bacon flavor, and what bacon there was didn't tend to be crispy. Fortunately, the pepperoni, salami, sausage, and ham... er, Canadian bacon didn't suffer from similar problems.

The thin cuts of pepperoni and salami offered up some nice crispy edges and the pepperoni, in particular, added just a touch of peppery heat.

The Canadian bacon came julienned, which actually offered a more solid meaty texture compared to the other toppings.

The sausage also had a meaty texture but it was more seasoned, herby, and spongier.

The crust this time around came out pretty nicely with just the slightly crispy layer to it and a soft chewy crumb.

The sauce was pretty standard and there was good cheese coverage.

As you might guess with all the meat toppings, the pizza was very salty but that's pretty much the case with any all-meat topped pizza.

Overall, I found Papa John's Ultimate Pizza to be pretty enjoyable except for the odd lack of bacon flavor.
