Review: Pizza Hut - Old Fashioned Meat Brawl Pizza

Pizza Hut’s Old Fashioned Meat Brawl pizza features classic marinara sauce, meatballs, fresh red onions and diced Roma tomatoes, flavored up with their “Hut Favorite” seasoning on the crust edge.

I purchased a large online for $11 but the regular retail price is $15.49.

One of the new recipes from Hut’s recent “Flavor of Now” menu, the Old-Fashioned Meat Brawl showcases the new meatballs and roma tomatoes that the chain now offers. I was actually very impressed with the meatballs. They were savory and had a perfect consistency for a pizza topping. They weren’t sliding off with my cheese or rolling over the top of the pie. The tomatoes were also a pleasant experience. They were so juicy and sweet I would have thought they were fresh if I didn’t know better.

The onions (which are fresh) were a good final piece to the dish. They were just firm enough to make their presence known on the landscape of the pizza.

Like the onions, the “Hut Favorite” crust treatment was available before Pizza Hut’s "Flavor of Now" brand overhaul but the light buttery flavor it added was welcome. It should be noted that I chose the Hand-Tossed crust even though the company suggests their Pan crust for this pizza. My crust was soft but not overly doughy with just a bit of crispiness around the edge. I picked it because I thought it would be more like a meatball sandwich than the Pan crust would.

My only real issue with the pizza was how scarce it was on sauce. If Pizza Hut’s trying to mimic the sensation of a meatball sub then the light spread I received isn’t going to cut it. If I order one again, I’ll be sure to order it with extra marinara.

So in conclusion, I really enjoyed the Old Fashioned Meat Brawl. The new topping choices shine in this simple combination. I would only recommend that you make sure the details are to your liking if you plan on ordering one.
