Review: Red Velvet Oreo Cookies

Red Velvet Oreos feature a cream-cheese-flavored creme sandwiched by red velvet Oreo chocolate wafers.

I picked up a 10.7-oz package for $2.99.

It's a bit weird holding a 10.7-oz package of Oreos; I'm so used to the rectangular package and this was almost a square.

The wafers taste like your regular Oreo wafers except they have a red hue to them. You get the same crispy crunch and chocolaty, just slightly bitter, finish.

The big difference is the cream, which is softer than the standard vanilla-flavored cream. The softness makes them less than uniform out of the package; the creme on the one I took a picture of looks to have squished down a little right out of the tray, so that it meets the very edge of the wafer.

The creme really does feel and taste like cream cheese frosting. Similar to some cupcakes, the frosting/creme has a tendency to overwhelm the cake portion, or in this case, the Oreo wafers. You can still taste them but the chocolaty notes are dulled.

Overall, Red Velvet Oreos are pretty good, especially if you prefer the creme over the wafers as the cream cheese flavor is really the star here. Fans of cream cheese frosting are sure to be pleased.
