Review: Tazo - Organic Chai Latte

Tazo's Organic Chai Latte features a liquid concentrate of black tea, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and vanilla that you simply mix with milk to make a hot or cold chai tea latte.

It was $3 for a 32 fl oz-carton (I got it at Target and they had both organic and non-organic version at the same price, so I went for the organic).

Tazo is owned by Starbucks and was formerly the tea they offered at Starbucks until they acquired Teavana not too long ago. The brand is now sold in retail and grocery stores.

Tea concentrate before milk added.
Considering that a carton costs about as much as buying a single Chai tea latte from Starbucks, it offers a pretty nice value as the taste is just as good, if not better.

You can blend the Organic Chai Latte to taste but the carton suggests a half and half blend. Just for kicks, I tried drinking just the concentrate and it has that bitter tea flavor and an expected very sweet and spiced quality. The aroma of the concentrate reminds me of spiced apple cider; not surprising given the similar spices.

Tea concentrate with milk.
Mixed with milk, the bitterness disappears while still leaving a light tea flavor and creaminess; the sweetness and spices mellow out for a pleasant milk flavor. It's really nice over ice given the recent hot weather in my area.

Overall, Tazo's Organic Chai Latte is really good if you prefer a mild chai (which is fine by me). If you want something stronger without getting overly sweet, you might want to mix it with an extra bag of black tea.
