Review: El Pollo Loco - Power Bowl

El Pollo Loco's Power Bowl features chopped chicken breast, broccoli, black beans, pico de gallo, and cotija cheese.

The bowl with tortillas and a small drink came out to $5.

While the ingredient mix reads pretty simply, each ingredient figured in quite tastefully.

The black beans in particular were seasoned to a really nice flavor. The Original Pollo Bowl comes with pinto beans but the black beans are so much better.

The broccoli was cooked through but retained an enjoyable crispness that provide contrast against the chicken and beans.

The chicken was moist and flavorful with the chain's signature citrus-lime marinade. It came cut into good-sized, hearty chunks.

The pico del gallo added a tangy freshness, while I could actually taste the cotija cheese. With few distractions, I could make out the cheese itself beyond just the extra saltiness I usually get.

Overall, El Pollo Loco's Power Bowl was excellent for me with surprisingly flavor from just a few components. There's a lot of value for the price especially if you're looking for a good amount of protein without a lot of calories or fat.
