Review: Del Taco - Epic Carne Asada Burrito

Del Taco's Epic Carne Asada Burrito features their new grilled carne asada, slow-cooked beans, fresca lime rice, guacamole, and pico de gallo, wrapped in a warm, large flour tortilla.

I paid $6.29 for one.

The new version of their grilled steak offers a more seasoned profile with touches of cumin and garlic compared to the previous version, which was a more plain salt and pepper kind of deal. It was tender enough with a properly meaty texture but there was also a fair bit of gristle to mine. Portion-wise, it was evenly distributed throughout with a decent amount in most bites.

The beans provided a nice earthiness and soft consistency but the rice was a bit too plain.

The pico de gallo and guacamole were left to round out the burrito with some bright tanginess but there wasn't enough of either to do the job. As a result, the whole burrito was rather muted and I found myself wishing I had remembered to grab some sauce.

Overall, Del Taco's Epic Carne Asada Burrito was nice as far as the ingredients go but could have used a lot more pico de gallo and guacamole to liven it up and balance out the more basic elements.
