Review: Hardee's - Bacon Swiss Chicken Biscuit

Hardee's Bacon Swiss Chicken Biscuit features buttermilk chicken, applewood-smoked bacon, a folded egg, and melted Swiss cheese on a made from scratch biscuit.

The complete biscuit goes for $3.99 and for $3.79 sans egg. I received one courtesy of Hardee’s.

Hardee's has decided to add some flare to their "chicken for breakfast" menu with this latest biscuit sandwich. They've basically loaded up their normal chicken filet biscuit with all the ingredients we've come to expect out of our fast food breakfasts. The results are hit and miss.

The bacon on my biscuit was surprisingly thick (Ed. note - they recently switched to thick-cut bacon; their previous bacon was paper thin). It's rare that I really find some texture in the bacon on a breakfast sandwich so chomping into some real, fatty bacon was pretty exciting. The chicken was also a highlight. While it wasn't all too flavorful, it was satisfying juicy, which was ideal in contrast with the biscuit. Hardee's biscuits aren't the driest out there, but it's still a biscuit and they're always gonna be a little hard to swallow. The moist filet really helped it out.

My biggest problem with this sandwich was the cheese. Hardee's claims that it's Swiss but I detected no discernible flavor whatsoever. It's closer to white American cheese product than it is to Swiss. It added a bit of creaminess between the egg and chicken but was barely noticeable otherwise. The egg was nothing special either but I suppose it's not really a breakfast biscuit without it. I’d recommend adding some salt and pepper to taste if you're planning on trying this sandwich.

Overall Hardee’s Bacon Swiss Chicken Biscuit is average. While the bacon is a highlight, the sandwich as a whole isn't particularly interesting. Perhaps some higher quality cheese would have made it stand out but unfortunately that's not what we got here.
