Review: Wendy's - Gouda Bacon Cheeseburger

Wendy's Gouda Bacon Cheeseburger features a slice of aged Gouda, Swiss Gruyere sauce, a quarter pound beef patty, garlic aioli, three strips of applewood-smoked bacon, red onions, tomato, and spring mix on a toasted brioche bun.

I bought one for $5.19.

Aged or not, the Gouda was very, very mild. Even when I broke off a piece of just beef and cheese, it was just a generic melted creaminess but nothing that was telling me, "Hey! This is Gouda." On the plus side, it was melted rather nicely across the patty.

I mentioned before that Wendy's Swiss Gruyere sauce captures the titular flavor well but is quite mellow and easily overshadowed by bolder components. Unfortunately, it was the garlic aioli and bacon that shined here.

The garlic aioli contributed a nice punch of salty garlicky goodness, while the bacon was deliciously crunchy, smoky, and porky.

The tomato and onions were fresh and crisp if a little sparse in the application. The spring mix added a premium feel but I'd opt for the traditional crunch of iceberg over it.

The beef patty was almost juicy with a really nice coarse grind and flavor.

Overall, Wendy's Gouda Bacon Cheeseburger was generally well-made with good quality ingredients but the headline components were disappointingly overshadowed by a couple of mid-carders.
