Taco Bell Tests New Cheesy Chalupa Crunch

Taco Bell is trying a new variation of their Cheesy Gordita Crunch, with a fried Chalupa shell instead of the soft flatbread gordita, called the new "Cheesy Chalupa Crunch."

The test item has been spotted at select Taco Bell restaurants in Texas for $2.49 each. It's also available as part of a $5 Box combo along with a Crunchy Taco, Burrito Supreme, and medium fountain drink.

Besides the Chalupa shell, the item also differs from the Cheesy Gordita Crunch in that the two shells are held together by nacho cheese rather than a melted three-cheese blend.

In sum, the Cheesy Chalupa Crunch consists of a crunchy taco shell filled with seasoned ground beef, lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese, and reduced-fat sour cream (i.e. a Taco Supreme) spread with nacho cheese on the outer shell to glue it into a Chalupa shell.

While the menu item is new to the chain, the name has popped up now and again as intrepid customers custom order it (or something similar) now and again. If you don't happen to be near one of the test locations, you can try your luck by asking for a Cheesy Gordita Crunch with a Chalupa shell instead of the gordita shell.
