Review: Papa John's - Wisconsin Cheese Stuffed Cheesesticks

Papa John's Wisconsin Cheese Stuffed Cheesesticks feature melted cheddar, Asiago, Fontina, Provolone, and cheese made from mozzarella and come topped with garlic sauce and Parmesan Romano cheese.

I picked up an order for $5.

Like the Bacon Cheddar version, between the overly generous dusting of flour and the toasted parmesan on top, the Wisconsin Cheese Stuffed Cheesesticks were drier at the surface than you'd expect from cheesesticks but were also nice and crunchy. Fortunately, the crumb inside was soft, relatively moist, and slightly chewy.

Inside, it's not exactly oozing with melted cheesy goodness but there's still an even layer that ensures cheese in every bite. The various cheeses was good for a nice flavor that's more complex than similar offerings by Pizza Hut and Domino's, and, by Papa John's as well.

The garlic sauce was largely missing in action on the cheesesticks but I had a cup of it for dipping and that made up for it.

For the limited-time price of $5, Papa John's Wisconsin Cheese Stuffed Cheesesticks are actually cheaper than their other breadsticks or cheesesticks and taste a lot better. While there are two varieties and they list a filling of different cheeses on their online menu, the only real difference is whether there's bacon or not, so choose accordingly.
