Review: Starbucks - Unicorn Frappuccino

Starbucks Unicorn Frappuccino features a Frappuccino creme base flavored with mango syrup and sweet pink powder, layered with a sour blue drizzle, and then topped off with whipped cream plus a sprinkle of both sweet pink and sour blue powders. The drink initially comes colored purple, but once the blue drizzle is stirred in, becomes a pink drink with tart notes. It is available for a limited time until April 23, 2017.

I got a grande for $4.95.

Unfortunately, my local Starbucks had run out of the sour blue powder by the second day of the promotional event (and apparently, supply--and frazzled Starbucks baristas--are an issue at many-a-store). I originally thought they had made my drink wrong when they gave me the purple drink with nary a blue speck  or blue drizzle in sight.

As I received it, the drink was rather sweet but the mango flavor itself was rather light. It tasted a little like mango-flavored candy rather than actual mango, but it tasted oddly watered down. I imagine that the sour blue powder would have helped to add a stronger flavor to the drink because it was a little bland as I received it.

I really looked forward to being able to see the colors change with mixing, but I only got half of the Unicorn Frappuccino experience and I didn't like the flavor enough to try a different location. If the mango syrup was stronger in actual fruit-flavor, I might have considered it. The purple color of the drink really was lovely though.
