Review: Wendy's - Bacon Queso Fries

Wendy's Bacon Queso Fries feature natural-cut sea salt fries topped with poblano queso cheese sauce, shredded cheddar cheese, and pieces of applewood-smoked bacon.

An order cost me $2.49.

The cheese sauce had about the same consistency as your standard nacho cheese sauce but was interspersed with slight pieces of poblano peppers and the occasional shred of cheddar.

In taste, I got the mild cheddar notes and typical creaminess but joined by a medium heat and the flavor of the poblanos. It never got too uncomfortable but my nose did start to run halfway through.

My local Wendy's is usually generous with the bacon on fries and baked potatoes and such was the case on this occasion. The bacon was nice and crispy with an enjoyable smokiness.

The fries paired well with the cheese and bacon but suffered texture-wise. There was the occasional crisped surface but for the most part, the fries softened pretty quickly on account of the moisture and heat of the cheese sauce.

While the fries could be crispier, Wendy's Bacon Queso Fries were still really enjoyable and provided a more flavorful and spicier rendition of the chain's Baconator Fries. I liked these better than their Bacon Sriracha Fries offered earlier this year as these offered a heat and flavor incorporated into cheese as opposed to a mayo-based sauce over cheese.
