Review: Arby's - Miami Cuban Sandwich

Arby's Miami Cuban Sandwich features thick-sliced roast pork, pit-smoked ham, mustard, pickles, and Swiss cheese on a toasted roll.

I bought one for $6.09.

Between the roast pork and the smoked ham, there was a good amount of juicy meat in the sandwich but there wasn't enough of a contrast between them. Both were salty with the roast pork having a more seasoned, savory quality to it. A sweet ham might have worked better.

With the pickles and the mustard, there was plenty of tanginess to go around. Perhaps too much so as the ham and Swiss cheese didn't do enough to cut against it (again, a sweet component might have helped here). The pickles provided a nice crunch though.

The roll on the other hand was only occasionally crisp here and there rather than crunchy like a typical Cuban sandwich, which is grill-pressed.

The cheese was very nicely melted but, like most fast food cheese, was not all that distinctive.

Overall, Arby's Miami Cuban Sandwich turned out rather ho-hum for me. It was just missing a little something extra in both taste and texture.
