Review: Shake Shack - Mac & Cheese

A top-down view of Shake Shack's Mac & Cheese.

Shake Shack's Mac & Cheese features cavatappi pasta and a creamy sauce made with Cheddar and American cheeses, topped with toasted breadcrumbs.

An order cost me $5.99.

The pasta was tender and held the sauce well. Even if it didn't, it wouldn't have mattered as the sauce-to-pasta ratio in my particular cup skewed heavily in favor of the sauce.

The sauce was creamy and smooth with a definite American cheese flavor to it.

The toasted breadcrumbs added a nice crispiness, but were slightly stale (this is one of those things that probably varies quite a bit).

A spoonful of Shake Shack's Mac & Cheese.

Overall, Shake Shack's Mac & Cheese was nice enough, but I prefer the more cheesy, less saucy variety of mac and cheese. If you grew up eating Kraft Mac & Cheese (I did not), this is an elevated take on that might be right down your alley.
