Review: The Domino Detroit-Style Pizza

The Domino Detroit-style pizza next to a quarter.

The Domino is Domino's Detroit-Style Pizza featuring a Parmesan crust with your choice of toppings. I went with pepperoni.

I got one for $6.99. You can get it for around $4 when the chain runs one of its 50% off menu-priced pizza deals, though.

For the size and thickness, The Domino had a light and airy crumb and slightly oily, crispy edges. It's pretty big for a personal pizza. The caramelized cheese on the edges was pretty mild, with a generically cheesy flavor rather than a Parmesan taste. It's made with the same dough as the chain's Handmade Pan Crust and has the same buttery flavor.

There was enough cheese on top for a decent cheese pull in some bites. The pepperoni was pretty standard, with a spiced, salty flavor and light crisping. It always feels a bit sparse on Detroit-style pizzas but I'm just a sucker for pepperoni. I'd recommend going with sausage or bacon for a meatier, more abundant experience.

I've tried this three times, with three different toppings, and there's been some variance. For the most part, the crust was airy and thick with crispy edges, but one time it was a little gummy and another time, it was overly saucy. I recommend getting it with less sauce and well done for the best results.

Overall, I liked The Domino a good deal. I enjoyed the amount of cheese and the crispy and airy textures of the crust. The price is just okay, though, as you can get a large carryout pizza for $2 more. It's a steal for $4 when there's a 50% off deal, though.
