Taco Bell's Spicy Ranchero Crispy Chicken Taco features a crispy-fried white meat chicken strip, shredded cheddar cheese, pico de gallo, lettuce, purple cabbage, and Spicy Ranchero sauce.
I bought one for $3.29.
The taco came in a half-closed wrapper that was convenient for keeping the contents from spilling out the end as I ate. The tortilla was soft but sturdy without being overly chewy.
The chicken strip is described as "marinated with bold Mexican spices, and coated in a crunchy tortilla chip breading." It didn't particularly taste like Mexican spices to me, but it was nice and crunchy on the outside with a tender and moist interior. The chicken was decently thick for a meaty bite.
The lettuce, cabbage, and pico de gallo contributed freshness with extra crunch from the lettuce and cabbage to accompany the tanginess of the pico. The cheese was very mild but added some richness and texture.
The new Spicy Ranchero sports a tomato and mayo base with heat from Anaheim chile peppers. It was good for a creamy tang and a medium heat. It's not particularly interesting, but it does the job.
When it comes down to it, Taco Bell's Spicy Ranchero Crispy Chicken Taco was well-executed with an enjoyable mix of textures and flavors. You can consider it Taco Bell's version of a snack wrap, and it stands out with its crunchy chicken and cabbage as well as the addition of pico de gallo.
