KFC's Nashville Hot Loaded Fries Bowl features Secret Recipe Fries layered with coleslaw, pickles, five Original Recipe Nuggets, and a drizzle of Nashville Hot Sauce.
I bought one for $5.
If you're thinking, "I don't know if fries and coleslaw go all that well together," you'd be right. While both are nice enough on their own, the combination of the two doesn't quite mesh. My first bite was jarring as the coleslaw was quite cold with a light crunch while the Secret Recipe Fries managed to stay warm and substantially crunchy.
Flavor-wise, the creamy, subtlely sweet, and tangy notes of the coleslaw didn't play well with the seasoned spices of the fries. Add in the spicy and slightly sweet flavor of the Nashville Hot Sauce and a lot was going on but not in a good way. There were supposed to be some pickles but they seemed to have forgotten it.
The chicken was small, crispy, and very salty on the outside and fairly juicy inside. It absorbed the Nashville Hot Sauce well and was quite tasty eaten together.
The 3-cheese blend seemed mostly there to add some richness and stringy texture. Due to the cold of the coleslaw, it wasn't melted at all. The flavor was mild and didn't come across over all the other components.
Unfortunately, everything was combined together and the KFC Nashville Hot Loaded Fries Bowl just wasn't tasty. The textures were good and varied but the flavor was just all over the place. It had me wishing they had brought back last year's Smash'd Potato Bowl, which offered a surprising pairing of fries and mashed potatoes that was really good. There's a reason loaded fries don't generally include coleslaw and I experienced why that is here.
