Review: McDonald's - Baked Apple Pie

I miss when it used to be just the "McDonald's Apple Pie" because it was deep-fried and not baked. But, amid concerns that the filling was too hot and maybe health concerns, in 1992, McDonald's switched from fried to baked pies here in the U.S.

Rumor has that at a select few locations, you can still get the fried apple pie, but I haven't seen it anywhere. Still, it's a value since as long as I can remember at two pies for $1.

I'm not sure in what kind of contraption they bank them in but as you can see they are vented on top, so the filling isn't burn-your-mouth hot when you stuff your face. My sister likes the baked better but I preferred the crispiness of the deep-fried apple pie of my childhood.

As you can see, it's a little bit of a flakey crust which some people like. The filling is standard apple pie filling, nothing special but still tasty. McDonald's Pies also come in cherry and, in other parts of the world, in other flavors such as strawberry, blueberry, and S'mores!.

The McDonald's Baked Apple Pie works for some people, but if you're like me and crave the fried, you'll step into your local KFC. That's right! KFC has fried apples pies, two for $1!

  1. I remember those fried apple pie. They were awesome. I missed it after they got rid of it. I heard long time ago when they open up the first mega McDonald store in Moscow, the Russians line up to order them by the dozen.
Down here in Texas we have a place call Wattaburger. They also sell fried apple pie. It taste exactly like the old MickyD fried apple pie.

  2. The McD's inside the Wal-Mart in Upland still sells fried pies. You can order it when you pay for your stuff and by the time you walk over to McD's, it's ready for pick-up.

In Norway, the cherry pie was on one side and vanilla cream on the other.

My sister wanted to order the pineapple pie at the McD's in Hawaii, but your sister and the girls told her they had them here. They don't! She thought it was a new item she didn't know about and was so sad when she came back to find it was only a Hawaiian thing.

    Taro pies in Asia.

OK, that's all I know about McD's fried pies.

  7. They still sell them at McDonald's throughout Europe. Whenever I travel there, I always stop by the nearest McD's and load up on fried pies!
