McDonald's recently released their Angus burgers throughout the U.S. after a period of regional testing. I tried an Angus Chipotle BBQ Bacon because it sounded the most interesting out of the Angus burgers available. As far as fast food burgers go, it's pretty tasty.
The burger consists of a sesame seed bakery-style bun, crinkle-cut pickles (they're crisper and fresher than what you get in a Hamburger), a slice of melted American cheese, red onions, bacon, one third pound of Angus-grade ground beef in a thick patty, and a chipotle barbecue sauce. Basically, it's McDonald's Bacon & Cheese Angus, but with chipotle barbecue sauce instead of ketchup and mustard.
It costs $3.99 which is comparable to other premium burgers at the other major burger chains.
That means that if they don't yet have it in your area, you can probably get them to make it for you but you might have to pay extra for the chipotle sauce which is usually reserved for their Chicken Selects.
As I stated before, the Angus Chipotle BBQ Bacon tastes pretty good for a fast food burger, the ingredients were well-balanced without any one overpowering any of the others. I can't say that the angus grade beef made any difference; since most fast food joints cook their patties to well doneness, the patties tend to be dried out and lacking flavor.
The chipotle BBQ sauce was a nice surprise, it had a nice smoky sweet flavor and just a slight kick. It complemented the burger's flavor very well especially the crunchy red onions. While the burger is a bit large for someone of my small appetite, it should be adequate for most fast food goers although maybe not as substantial as most sit down joints.
I'd probably be more likely to buy one again if they were cheaper and smaller...

I like the Mushroom and Swiss version of the Angus Third Pounders but have not tried the Chipotle BBQ Bacon version yet! It looks good but I agree, these burgers are really big! And very fattening :).
ReplyDeletelooks pretty good. is the burger just as big as bic mac?
ReplyDeleteEatTravelEat: Sharing is caring is my motto for big burgers!
ReplyDeleteAnon: It's bigger, it's probably a little bigger than a Quarter Pounder.
i see, thanks!
ReplyDeleteQ,
ReplyDeleteLOL! I also ended up sharing one of these before. :)
Easily the best burger I've ever had at McD's. I only go there when my kid's school has a 'takeover' there, so I'm not a McD's fan, but I was pleasantly surprised. Bit of a sticker-shock, however. the combo meal was six and half bucks.
ReplyDelete@Lascauxcaveman: Yeah, they're trying to move a little upscale with some menu item. Quite a few of their restaurants are planned to be renovated accordingly.
ReplyDeleteI hate to say it but that picture is of an angus deluxe (I've assembled many) the angus chipotle bbq bacon consists of red onions, crinkle cut pickles, 3 strips of bacon, 2 slices of american cheese and chipotle bbq sauce (the same that is on the snack wraps).
ReplyDeleteYou might be right... I can't remember exactly but I think I had a "buy one, get one" coupon and got an Angus Deluxe and a Chipotle BBQ Bacon... I'm not sure though as I got it when it just came out and was in LA only.
