Five Guys is a popular burger chain with East Coast origins that not-too-long ago finally landed in California. I finally tried one of their Little Bacon Cheeseburgers recently for $4.69.

Review: Five Guys - Fries

Five Guys Fries are what Wendy's would call "natural cut" AKA skin-on fries. Unlike Wendy's new fries (which are shipped frozen to each restaurant), Five Guys' Fries are cut fresh in house before frying in In-N-Out fashion.

$3.99 buys you a large order enough to share with four friends or maybe just one friend if you're a big eater. I wouldn't recommend eating an entire large order by yourself for two reasons: one, it's over a pound of fries; and two, it's nearly 1,500 calories worth of fried potatoes.

Five Guys Adds Patty Melt to Menu

Due to its popularity as a custom order/menu hack, fast-casual burger chain Five Guys officially adds the Patty Melt to the menu so that you no longer have to specify the nuances of getting one made.

Darius' Take - Five Guys - Little Bacon Cheeseburger

Five Guys' Little Bacon Cheeseburger comes fresh off the grill and features a single beef patty, bacon, and a slice of American cheese plus a choice of toppings.

I paid $6.09 for one at my local store.

Five Guys' Cajun Fries are their other option for French Fries and feature fresh-cut skin-on potatoes fried to a crisp doneness and sprinkled with Cajun seasoning.

I picked up a "Little Fry" (their smallest size) for $2.49.

Five Guys' Bacon Cheese Dog comes with a split hot dog, bacon, and American cheese plus your choice off of their list of free toppings.

It's a bit pricey at $5.49 for one hot dog.

News: Who's on Top: Zagat's Fast Food Survey

Survey company Zagat revealed the results of its 2010 Fast-Food Survey, which covered 97 major fast food chains and 39 full service chains and polled 6,518 zagat.com diners who ate at chain outlets (6.1 times at fast food chains) on average 10.7 times per month.

The survey results divided the chains into four categories: Large (up to 5,000 U.S. outlets), Mega (over 5,000), Full-Service (with table service), and Quick-Refreshment (focusing on beverages, ice cream and the like).

A couple notable winners in this year's survey include Five Guys Burger and Fries (look it rhymes!) for Best Burger (which is likely to be declared a travesty by In-N-Out Burger fans everywhere, including my brother and the Sister-in-Law who didn't care for Five Guys when they ate it without me), McDonald's for Best Fries (you know it!), and Dairy Queen for Best Milkshakes. With all the chains adding coffee to the menu, Starbucks still came out on top with Best Coffee.

I recently visited one of the new Panda Express + Tea Bar restaurants, which offers salads, Bings (wraps AKA the Panda Express burrito), and tea that you can't get at normal Panda Express locations.

KFC parent company Yum Brands is testing a Chick-fil-A-like restaurant concept out in Arlington, Texas called "Super Chix" that just opened today.

The restaurant boldly proclaims its sandwich as "The Last True Chicken Sandwich," and features a fairly simple menu that includes chicken sandwiches, tenders, fries, onion strings, frozen custard, and salads.

Buffalo Wild Wings Tests Express Format Focusing on Take Out and Delivery

Citing growing consumer interest in takeout and at-home dining, Buffalo Wild Wings will test two smaller "B-Dubs Express" locations that are more geared towards take-out and delivery.
