Review: McDonald's - Vanilla Iced Coffee

McDonald's recently started sending coupons to my house and in their most recent flyer was a coupon for a free Iced Coffee which I promptly clipped and stored in my car. Sure enough, after a late night of classes, I stopped by a local McDonald's to get me some free 24oz. Vanilla Iced Coffee.

Unlike the Hazelnut Iced Coffee that I had in Kettleman City, the Vanilla Iced Coffee actually tastes like coffee with a hint of vanilla, it also had more of a coffee flavor and I actually drank the whole thing. 24 ounces of coffee is really a ridiculous amount.

Even more ridiculous were the two people in front of me who ordered two large iced coffees... I'm sure you could pee for a good 5 minutes after drinking one of those.

The vanilla flavor is worth a try but I probably wouldn't buy it though unless they started offering "normal" sizes, like say 12 ounces.

I also bought a large order of fries, because McDonald's fries are awesome when they are crisp! Mmmmmm... beef flavor... unfortunately sometimes they give you soggy fries which suck! Luckily, I got my crispy fries this time!

Update (current as of 7/14/12) - Iced Coffees are now 12 ounces for a small, 22 ounces for a medium, and 32 ounces for a large.

  1. Nice post! I got one of those coupons too these weeks. Last week, I saw kids!!! drinking a large size iced coffee. Certainly, I was amazed at the fact of the gigantic size, and most importantly, the person drinking it was only about 12-13 years old.

I really like your website :), in which I found out about on Wandering Chopsticks post on beef noodle soup while looking at the archived posts.

  2. WSL: Thanks! Yeah, I went the other day and while ordering asked the cashier (who was probably in high school) if they offered a smaller size. She was a bit puzzled as to why I would want a smaller size when I pointed out that 24oz of coffee is a bit much and informed me that she drank about 3 or 4 coffees a day O_o

  3. Q:You're welcome! You got a really weird cashier when you ordered- it's amazing that a high school person would drink that many cups of coffee- a ton of caffeine! 24 ounces is a lot- more than one cup, and bigger than a small size coffee at McDonalds.

  4. I finally used the coupon today (after reading your posts on the iced coffee) and tried the regular version of the iced coffee. It was pretty good, with the flavor notes of the coffee and richness from the cream (in which before stirred, looked like white on the bottom and the coffee on top), sweetness from the syrup, and a ton!!! of milk- it looked like the bubble milk tea (even lighter color than that- just like your photos). Overall- pretty good, but if the employee didn't add so much ice (watery), it might have even tasted better.

  7. oh yeah...the crispiness of the fries depends on how recently they cleaned the oil. a little something i learned from back when alina used to work there.
