McDonald's describes the new sauce as "a harmonious blend of vinegary North Carolina BBQ sauce infused with notes of honey, smoke, and mustard." A gold barbecue sauce is a mustard-based barbecue sauce that originates from South Carolina.
Special Edition Gold Sauce is meant to pair well with the chain's McCrispy chicken and is featured in three new menu items:
- Special Edition Gold Snack Wrap - A McCrispy Strip, Special Edition Gold Sauce, shredded cheese, and shredded lettuce, wrapped in a soft flour tortilla.
- Bacon Special Edition Gold McCrispy - A McCrispy chicken filet, Special Edition Gold Sauce, applewood-smoked bacon, and crinkle-cut pickles, served on a toasted potato roll.
- Bacon Special Edition Gold Deluxe McCrispy - A McCrispy chicken filet, Special Edition Gold Sauce, applewood-smoked bacon, lettuce and tomato, served on a toasted potato roll.
You can also get a dipping cup of the new sauce with an order of McCrispy Strips or Chicken McNuggets.
