Two Crispy Chicken Strips with a dipping cup of Sweet Chipotle BBQ Sauce cost me $4.49.
There was a notable difference in size and shape between my two chicken strips. One was wide and flat, while the other was a small knob. Neither was very long. The breading was thick and crunchy, while the chicken inside was tender and moist. The seasoning was light and standard for similarly situated chicken strips/tenders/fingers.
The new Sweet Chipotle BBQ Sauce had a strong, smoky chipotle flavor upfront, with a medium, lingering heat, paired with a balanced mix of sweet and tangy notes over a tomato base. Despite the name, I wouldn't say it's considerably sweeter than other fast-food BBQ sauces. It's basically a traditional BBQ sauce with a chipotle twist, which is pretty nice.
Overall, Taco Bell's Crispy Chicken Strips made a good accounting for themselves versus other fast-food tenders. They were crunchy and tender and went well with the Sweet Chipotle BBQ Sauce. The sauce fills a hole in the chain's dipping sauce selection.
