Review: Frosted Boston Creme Donut Pop-Tarts

Frosted Boston Creme Donut Pop-Tarts feature toaster pastries with chocolaty icing and a Boston cream-flavored filling.

A 13.5-oz box costs about $2.99 but I received this courtesy of Pop-Tarts.

There was a mild but pleasant chocolaty flavor from the rather drab and pale brown frosting. Inside was a similarly mellow but custardy, sugary, paste-like filling. It's sweet but a little less so than other frosted Pop-Tart flavors. It lacked the creaminess you might expect from a Boston cream filling.

The pastry itself was flaky and crispy like a thin pie crust.

Overall, Frosted Boston Creme Donut Pop-Tart ended up tasting better than it looked. The tan of the frosting was a far cry from the deep brown shown on the box but the flavor and textures were pretty nice. Beyond the lack of creaminess, there was a light but enjoyable custard and chocolate combination.
