Review: Taco Bell - Naked Chicken Chips

Taco Bell's Naked Chicken Chips feature chip-shaped, marinated, white meat chicken encased with a crispy, deep-fried shell. Warm nacho cheese comes on the side for dipping.

I picked up a six-piece order for $1.99.

If you're a fan of the Naked Chicken Chalupa chicken shell, the Naked Chicken Chip are the same thing except with a different shape and slightly thinner chicken. Given the wider shape, you can top these a bit better than a chicken nugget if so inclined.

There's a fairly thick, slightly craggly (but not flaky), crispy shell to each piece as well as a medium heat that takes a while to build up. Inside is ground chicken that managed to stay moist enough but I would guess could dry out in short order if left in the fryer too long.

The shell held up well against the warm cheese and the cheese mellowed out the chicken chips saltiness.

While the shape is very much a novelty, Taco Bell's Naked Chicken Chips make for a nice chicken nugget option if you find yourself there. They also might fill your craving for a spicy nugget now that Wendy's version is (mostly) gone.
