The chain describes the sauce as a blend of recipes from Memphis, TN with those from North and South Carolina, resulting in a sweet and smoky sauce that is "like barbecue you've had before, but different."
The name comes from the fact that the Smoky Mountains separates Tennessee from the Carolinas.
If it makes it to the national market, the sauce will be the third of such regional flavors that the fried chicken chain has put out in recent years. The first two were Nashville Hot and Georgia Gold.
Like previous sauce options, The new sauce can be added to Extra Crispy Tenders, Chicken Littles, and Extra Crispy Chicken. Participating locations will also offer the new flavor for Kentucky Grilled Chicken and Hot Wings.
