Review: Burger King - Mushroom & Swiss King

Burger King's Mushroom & Swiss King features two slices of Swiss cheese, two quarter-pound flame-grilled beef patties, thick-cut bacon, mushrooms and mayo on a toasted sesame seed bun.

I bought one for $6.19.

Like the Steakhouse King and other recent "King" burgers, the Mushroom & Swiss King is pretty big and hefty. The bun is the same as you'll find on the Whopper. It's fairly soft, airy, and familiar.

My particular burger included a generous amount of mushrooms and they were piping hot with a slight chewiness to them and a mild flavor throughout. There was enough steam coming off of them to soften any crispiness that the bacon previously held.

The bacon offered intermittent bursts of slightly smoky saltiness but not much in the way of texture.

The cheese was thoroughly melted and creamy but, like most fast food cheese, isn't exactly going to take you to Flavor Town. Still, it combined with the beef patties in the right proportions for some meaty, cheesy goodness. The mayo added an extra layer of savoriness but didn't have the same punch as the Griller sauce from a while back.

Overall, Burger King's Mushroom & Swiss King did a good job of balancing between a small number of ingredients, resulting in a filling but relatively no-frills burger.
