Review: International Delight - One Touch Latte

International Delight's One Touch Latte promises to turn your brewed coffee into a reasonable facsimile of a latte in about 5 seconds.

They carry a suggested retail price of $3.99 but I received these three varieties (Vanilla, Mocha, and Caramel) courtesy of International Delight. I've also seen them on sale at my local supermarket for as low as $1.99.

While it's call a "One Touch Latte," what you're actually getting is frothed coffee creamer rather than steamed and foamed milk.

Tastewise, all three flavors were pretty good with the mild but pleasant notes of their respective flavors. They basically taste like flavored whipped topping.

The frothing requires a bit of technique though. When I first tried it out, I managed something that looked like a little like an airy cottage cheese:

It took a little stirring to get the small clumps to incorporate into the drink. The taste wasn't affected however.

What happened is I didn't tilt the canister enough and didn't press hard enough on the nozzle.

What I figured out is that you want to give the canister a good shake (which I did initially) plus you pretty much want to hold it upside-down and press hard enough on the nozzle so that it sprays out. You also want to hold the nozzle close to the surface your coffee.

If you manage it correctly, you get a decent layer of soapy looking foam that adds a bit of texture, creaminess, sweetness, and flavor to your coffee. If you're hoping for microfoam like you might get at some of the nicer coffee shops, that's really not going to happen.

Overall, International Delight's One Touch Latte may take a few tries to use properly but adds a nice foaming layer to the enjoyable flavors of the coffee creamer. Like cream and sugar, it works especially well with lackluster coffee since it covers up some of the harsher notes.
