Review: Papa John's - Mushroom Swiss Burger Pizza

Papa John's Mushroom Swiss Burger Pizza features a hand-tossed crust topped with creamy garlic sauce rather than pizza sauce as well as beef, crimini mushrooms, sliced onions, cheese made from mozzarella, and Swiss cheese.

I bought a large for $10.

As far as aroma goes, the pizza definitely smelled like a mushroom Swiss burger with a combination of fresh-baked bread, melted cheese, caramelized onions, and roasted garlic notes.

I requested for the crust to be "well-done," which typically gets you a more crispy shell that's oddly still chewy.

There's a good amount of very mild cheese to the pizza. It mixed well with the slightly tangy garlic sauce for an extra creaminess. The slightly bitter, sweetness of the onion along with the garlic were the stronger flavors, although the mushrooms were abundant as well. Which leaves the beef...

The beef was nice and flavorful enough when I came across it but such events were few and far between. It felt like a bit like a vegetarian pizza as a result.

Overall, Papa John's Mushroom Swiss Burger Pizza offered some enjoyable flavors and is one of the better limited-time pizzas they've put out in recent memory but it's more a Mushroom Swiss Pizza than a Mushroom Swiss Burger Pizza. You might want to try getting a double portion of beef for more of a burger feel (or maybe your local Papa John's will be more generous with the beef than mine).
