Review: Wicked Kitchen - Chorizo Mac & Cheese

Wicked Kitchen's Chorizo Mac & Cheese features pasta rigate, pork chorizo, and roasted tomatoes in a guajillo chile cheese sauce.

I paid $2.99 for a 9-oz box after a "$1 off" coupon.

The box touts that you can eat right out of it. I figured it would cook like a Michelina's right in the box but there's actually a sealed pouch inside the box.

The pasta turned out al dente and was almost too firm but fully cooked.

The mac and cheese felt more like a pasta with cream/cheese sauce as it lacked a cheesy gooeyness. A strong chile pepper note from the sauce had me thinking "nacho cheese." While thin, it offered an enjoyable taste and was fairly spicy. The tomatoes didn't contribute much flavor but added some texture.

The chorizo sausage reminded me a bit of the stuff you get from Domino's or Pizza Hut in shape and texture except slightly firmer. The seasoning is a bit different though and delivered an additional spicy kick.

Overall, Wicked Kitchen's Chorizo Mac & Cheese makes for a tasty dish with a nice combination of flavors and texture but didn't feel enough like mac and cheese for me.
