Jimmy Dean Petitions Dictionary to Change the Definition of "Sandwich" to Promote New Egg'wiches

Ahead of National Sandwich Day tomorrow, Jimmy Dean is petitioning the Merriam-Webster dictionary to change the definition of "sandwich" as a way to promote their new Egg'wiches, which features egg frittatas for buns.

The dictionary currently defines a sandwich as "two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between" and Jimmy Dean is looking for a more inclusive update that spans "breadless" options such lettuce, cookies (for ice cream sandwiches), and, of course, egg. Specifically, they'd like the definition to read something like "two or more layers of delicious food, having more delicious food filled in between."

You can find and sign the petition at change.org here. The brand put out a PSA (Public sSrvice Announcement) video to explain the idea and drum up support:

Jimmy Deam Delights Egg'wiches were released earlier this year and feature various meats and cheese sandwiched between two egg frittatas.

They come in three varieties:

- Broccoli and Cheese Egg Frittatas with Chicken Sausage and Cheese
- Bacon, Spinach, Caramelized Onion and Parmesan Egg Frittatas with Turkey Sausage and Cheese
- Ham, Bell Peppers, Mushroom, Bacon and Onion Egg Frittatas with Turkey Sausage and Cheese.

Egg'wiches come in packs of four for a suggested price of $6.99 and take about two minutes to heat up in the microwave.
