Review: Arby's - Spicy Greek Gyro

Arby's Spicy Greek Gyro features gyro meat, tzatziki sauce, gyro seasoning, shredded iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and Red Hot Chili Sauce folded in a flatbread.

I got one as part of their current two for $6 special. You can also get one for $4.29.

Spicy, slightly sweet, and tangy, and almost fruity sauce. There was a fresh quality to it like it was just blended together. It added another dimension to the gyro as well as a fair amount of heat (enough to get my nose running).

The gyro meat was finely ground with a texture similar to a hot dog but with less moisture. It was heavily spiced. There was a good amount of it in the sandwich. The tzatziki complements the meat well with a dose of tangy and cream, as well as an herby quality.

The tomatoes hit a nice spot between firm and soft, while the lettuce was crisp. The red onions added a light crunch.

The pillowy flatbread is spongier and more moist than your typical pita. It's essentially the sliced white bread of the pita world. Which is to say it doesn't taste like much and mostly serves as a soft cradle for everything inside and a buffer against the saltier ingredients. While it's great at holding everything in place without falling apart (like a pita sometimes does if it's too dry), it's a little too dense and chewy. I'm thinking the sturdy and soft qualities are probably the reasons they went with this particular flatbread.

Overall, Arby's Spicy Greek Gyro tastes a solid fast food gyro and hits it with an extra kick of heat and flavor that's worth looking into.
